Bio

Calvin Price is a DVM/MPVM dual degree student at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Having just completed his MPVM didactics portion, Calvin is in his third year of veterinary medicine.

Originally from South Africa, Calvin studied at Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois and at the University of Pretoria School of Veterinary Medicine before continuing his education here at UC Davis. Under the mentorship of Dr. Woutrina Smith and Dr. Brian Bird, Calvin is currently involved in two South African-based projects.

  1. Piroplasm research in white and black rhinoceros, aims to understand the epidemiological complexities behind a blood-born parasite that infects rhinoceros in South Africa.
  2. Calvin also manages a separate project to determine the serological prevalence of Rift Valley Fever Virus and Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Virus within various South African wildlife species.

Calvin has received funding from the Karen C. Drayer Wildlife Health Center, UC Davis Global Affairs and UC Davis Global Programs to support his research endeavors.
