Spring Showcase 2021: Walk on the Wild Side

As a part of the One Health Institute at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, the California Raptor Center and the Karen C. Drayer Wildlife Health Center's projects and programs focus on free-ranging and captive terrestrial and aquatic wild animals. Through service, training and research, the Center also aims to restore ecosystem health and address complex issues like zoonotic diseases from a One Health perspective.

Karen C. Drayer Wildlife Health Center

The Karen C. Drayer Wildlife Health Center works to maintain the health of wildlife, people and environment through science, technology and education. As the largest center within the One Health Institute, our work recognizes that the health of domestic animals, wildlife, people and the environment are inextricably linked.

California Mountain Lion Project

The California Mountain Lion Project has worked with mountain lions in Southern California since 2001, with particular focus on habitat use, prey animals, health and disease, and human interaction. By placing GPS collars on the mountain lions, we are able to track movements and behavior, as well as document habitat use.

Gorilla Doctors

Gorilla Doctors is the only organization in the world dedicated to conserving mountain and eastern lowland (Grauer's) gorillas through veterinary medicine, science and a One Health approach. The life-saving work of our veterinarians is more important than ever during the COVID-19 pandemic and we appreciate your support as we continue to protect the health of these endangered animals.

Latin America Programs

The Karen C. Drayer Wildlife Health Center’s Latin America Program focuses on a variety of wildlife conservation and One Health issues in South America. Some of our efforts include the population health of the southern right whale and the effects of lead ammunition on waterfowl.

The mission of the SeaDoc Society is to ensure the health of marine wildlife and their ecosystems through science and education. We strive to find science-based solutions for marine wildlife in the Salish Sea through a multi-species approach.

California Raptor Center

The California Raptor Center is an educational and research facility dedicated to the rehabilitation of injured and orphaned birds of prey (raptors). Our museum and our permanent collection of living, non-releasable raptors are open to public view on weekdays and Saturdays.
