Graduate Student Researcher

Bio

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Will Swain graduated from UC Davis in 2016 and has since returned to continue his studies as a PhD student in the Integrative Pathobiology program. In between his time at Davis, Will moved to London in 2018 to earn his MSc while dually enrolled at the Royal Veterinary College and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Will previously spent time in North Carolina researching zoonotic bacteria found in fleas collected from community cats throughout the United States as well as in Wyoming studying chronic wasting disease (CWD) in Rocky Mountain elk. Fascinated by “ticks, fleas, and VBDs,” Will is motivated to use a One Health lens to understand how the dynamics of our rapidly changing world influence the increase and spread of vector-borne diseases. Will’s current research focus is centered on tick-borne viruses in West and East Africa.
