A True One Health Champion: Matt Blake
Matthew Patrick Blake (June 24, 1974 - February 20, 2023)
With heavy hearts and endless rain in California that mirrors our tears, we say goodbye to our dear friend, leader, and One Health mentor Matthew Patrick Blake. Matt, for those that worked with him, that connected with him, and who quickly became friends (all of us), was an inspiration and a role model. He was a founder of the UC Davis One Health Institute, my close friend and constant critic, my mentor, my challenger, and he played similar roles with all of our UC Davis staff, faculty, students, and international collaborators.
Matt was the guru of work-life balance, a Creative, working with community organizations and the Davis music scene, the best father I have ever met, the man I went to for parenting advice, and with all his many hats, still dedicated to the success of the Institute and our programs.
He will be missed. He is my One Health Champion. He is our hero.
