Student Experiences in One Health
Today, we continue our Student Experiences in One Health series sharing first-hand accounts and experiences learning, studying, and advancing the One Health approach. This guest post features Will Swain, a 2021 Rx One Health Field Institute participant, highlighting his experience.
Will Swain
My name is Will Swain and I'm a huge nerd for microbiology, zoonotic diseases, vector-borne diseases, epidemiology, and One Health. I'd love to share a bit about how I ended up on my current path and what studying my interests with a "One Health lens" has meant for my journey.
I grew up in San Rafael, a town in the northern part of the San Francisco Bay Area, where I was fortunate to be surrounded by gorgeous outdoor spaces, hiking trails, and wildlife galore. My family helped instill a love of nature and science at an early age, but I didn't develop a fascination with infectious diseases until I studied biology in high school and found myself enthralled with disease-causing organisms.
